ERA near ratification in Arkansas

According to the 4ERA News Update (April 3, 2005), Arkansas may be the first state to ratify the ERA since 1977. The update states:

"Dear ERA Supporter,

Arkansas is close to being the first state to ratify the ERA since 1977!

The ERA ratification resolution in the Arkansas state Senate acquired the support of two additional state senators last week. They now have 16 senators supporting, but need two more for passage. ERA activist Berta Seitz reports that they hope to gain the support of four senate members who are "sitting on the fence".

When the resolution passes in the Senate it will be sent to the House of Representatives and assigned to a committee for review. If it is passed by the committee, 51 state representatives will need to vote in favor of the resolution for it to be ratified. They already have 20 representatives supporting ERA ratification.

Arkansas still urgently needs our help. Please do not delay. Contact your friends and acquaintances who live there and ask them to phone or email both their state senator and their representative immediately urging them to support ratification of the ERA. Phone calls, emails and faxes only take a moment and are effective. Contact information for Arkansas legislators can be found at: http://www.arkleg.state.ar.us/data/ARleg&comm.asp.
